Good Morning Northeastern! This is Jason Cardone here today with your sports report!
The Bobcat Tennis Team put together their best day ever in the counties at Red Lion yesterday as all four of their doubles team played incredible tennis!
Jason Cardone and Hayden Golden had a first round bye and played very well in their match against another Bobcat team, that of Tony Damian and Ryan McElwain in the second round before a loss to them.
Sam Sidle and Erick Sowers took down a good New Oxford team in more ways than one as they defeated the team that had beaten them just a week ago. After losing the first set, 6-4, Sam and Erick won the second set, 6-3 and then, with the shot of the day, won the third set, 6-0 to sweep into in the next round.
Although they played well, they lost to the second seeded team Red Lion after having a very good tournament.
Tony Damian and Ryan McElwain easily played their best tennis of the season as they took on a team from Dallastown that had beaten them in the regular season in two straight sets. After Tony and Ryan lost the initial set 6-4, they came back strong to win the second set to set up the third and final set.
They were down 3-5 and rallied to 5-5 and went back down 5-6 before leveling the match at 6-6 and set up the key tiebreaker. In that 7 point finale it was all Tony an Ryan as they won it going away, 7-3.
In their third match, both Tony and Ryan played well but lost to the top-seeded team from Dallastown.
The third seeded team of Josh Sanderson and Lance Fries swept through two teams in straight sets as they took down a Dallastown team and then played a Gettysburg team that had beaten both Josh and Lance in singles a few weeks ago. It was no contest as the Bobcats swept Gettysburg 6-4; 6-1 to move into today's semi-final at Southwestern.
In the Bobcat, Dallastown match ups in the Counties, Northeastern holds a 3-2 edge over powerhouse Dallastown and look forward to many more good contests going forward! A great day for the Bobcats, for sure!
